The book is always better than the movie. But occasionally, life is better than the book.

Ten years ago I made a mortifying, life-altering mistake. Now, this once seemingly insignificant choice is threatening to wreck my entire existence. And possibly throw Tristan Palmer—my next-door-neighbor and the guy I’ve had a secret crush on for the entirety of my life—into the fray unaware.

The mistake?

I am Sunny Palmer. As in the anonymous, best-selling author of over a dozen beloved romances and renowned thief of Tristan’s last name. Okay, not renowned yet, thank the high heavens! But that news will spread like wildfire if people discover that this introverted book nerd is the woman behind the pen name. And the fact that my first book, Secret Crush, is Tristan’s and my fictionalized love story leaves zero room for calling it anything but what it is—a travesty of greatest proportions.

That’s why NO ONE can know! Ever!

So it’s wretched luck that when I finally visit Sunset Harbor, the small-town island where I grew up, I run into the still heart-stopping, book-boyfriend-worthy man himself. And shockingly, Tristan seems intent on reminding me what the island has to offer. Because that’s what friends do.

Logic demands I resist his charm and guard my secret at all costs, which is why it’s vastly unfortunate that Tristan Palmer was and always will be … my greatest weakness.

A fun read

I loved the premise of this novel! It was so much fun getting an “inside” look at an authors creative process. Capri and Tristan’s story was fun to read.

Beach Read

My first thoughts after reading this one is: I really, really want to read the Bridget redemption book.Four Stars because I absolutely hated the manipulation of DeeDee stealing the car keys. It is the WORST part of this book and I nearly stopped reading it at that point because I was so angry with the author for using such a stupid manipulation. The only redeeming feature that kept me reading was that there was no male point of view running concurrently. I hate badly written male points of view - most women writers mess up male dialogue let alone their thoughts - so this was a refreshing change to the others in this Summer Series.

Secret crush

Ever since reading the blurb for this book around when it came out, I've been wanting to read it. A romance author who takes her crush's nickname for her and his last name as her pen name and writes the romance she wishes they had, publishes it, and then becomes a best-selling author? Yes please! Reading a bit more about Capri in her best friend Jane's book (the first in this series) intrigued me some more but I'm glad that her book didn't come straight after Jane's. I wasn't ready for Capri yet.To be honest, Capri annoyed me a little bit to start with. I thought her reason for staying off the island was pretty flimsy. It's not like the people who knew her for her whole life while she grew up on the island would forget that she existed just because she wasn't there anymore. However, her meddling family draw her back to the island and while she's stuck there her old crush and old neighbour tries to help her fall in love with the island again.Tristan was practically perfect (which is a little unrealistic TBH), but I think my favourite character in this book was Capri's brother-in-law, Heath. He was hilarious! His teasing, his dad jokes, his interference in Capri's love life made him such a fun character. He was the perfect comedy character.Content warning: light innuendoIntimacy level: 1 (make-outs)

A Quick Beach Read- No Spice, but a Great Plot

A great summer read! Love that it was full of great moments of tension without being inappropriate! This is romance done correctly. A good plot driving it and not all the spice driving it.
