When it comes to love and payback, Paisley pens her own rules

After a devastating breakup with her cheating co-worker, Paisley McConkie is determined to steer clear of her ex and his new girlfriend at all costs. But fate has other plans, thrusting them together on an unavoidable work project. Just when Paisley thinks things can’t get any more tangled, she discovers that Hudson Owens—the charming playboy who once rescued her from a flat tire—is stepping in as the interim boss of her department.

With her ex flaunting his new romance and Hudson still sporting grease stains from their roadside encounter, Paisley contemplates quitting. But Hudson charms her into staying, helping her devise the perfect revenge plan: pretend to date him instead.

As their playful ruse unfolds, Paisley soon realizes she’s falling for Hudson’s charm. He seems to genuinely care for her, but she doesn’t know if she can trust him. Is the playboy hanging up his hat once and for all, or will she become the latest in a string of broken hearts?

The only thing wrong with Off the Record, is that I didn’t want it to end.

Off the Record is a perfect quick read. I’ve been loving shared POV lately, so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed having only one POV in this story. It somehow felt fresh? I enjoyed the suspense of not having Hudson’s take directly from him. Kasey Stockton is a fantastic author. A pet peeve of mine is when authors create a quick resolution to conflict, or rush the ending, and this felt just right. Well done.

For the record a fun novella

I'm not a huge fan of office romance, but this one was clean yet fun. I liked how Paisley could hold her ground, how she worked hard in her job, and how she was kind to everyone, including her ex, Leo. Hudson seems a bit reserved at first but warms up some as he and Paisley work together. His character could have been flushed out more, but it is a novella and not as much time for character development. I would have liked the epilogue to last a little longer but overall it was a fun story.

Great Novella by Kasey Stockton

This was such a cute workplace romance novella. I really enjoyed reading how the relationship progressed between Paisley and Hudson. Kasey Stockton always does such a good job writing chemistry between characters. I loved how the tire scene got everything started and adore that it’s set in Nashville. If you’re looking for a quick read to brighten your day, this is it.

Kept me reading, but I wanted more romance

I did enjoy the plot, and it kept me reading. However, I would have loved more moments between the main couple to really build the chemistry. I needed more interaction and banter. There were also moments between them that were told in past tense. Wish I could have read those in present tense. Those yearning, angsty interactions are why I read romance. It was disappointing to realize I'd been left out of a lot of them. Overall, it was still a good read, and I'll try other books by this author.
